"A start-up King of Prussia company is working on a way to 'grow' a new bladder using a patient's own cells.
Hard to believe? Not to investors who recently put $39 million into Tengion Inc. to do just that…
Tengion was founded in late 2003 by Scheer & Co., a life-sciences advisory firm in Connecticut. President David Scheer, who has helped found eight life-sciences businesses, said he was excited about the technology developed by Anthony Atala, a researcher and pediatric urologist, at Boston Children's.
Tengion placed its headquarters in King of Prussia - and plans to build a manufacturing facility in Montgomery County - because of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology expertise in the greater Philadelphia area and New Jersey, Scheer said. Many of those recruited for the company's senior management were at companies in the region."
